From the second I found out that this book was coming out, I was counting down the days! After finishing American Royals, I was waiting anxiously for the rest of the story. (By the way, if you haven’t read American Royals yet make sure to check it out!) I had a ton of expectations, and this book did not disappoint!
Is it possible to say that I might have liked this one better than the last? Everything about it surprised me, and everything I thought was going to happen completely changed. Katharine McGee has such an amazing way of always keeping you on the edge of your seat!
Majesty starts about six weeks after American Royals ends. After the King dies from his hidden cancer, Beatrice must assume the role of the first queen in America. Samantha is still upset over her old boyfriend, Teddy, while Beatrice must proceed to marry him. Nina is still trying to hide away from the royal family, and Daphne is still on her power-hungry scheme to win back prince Jefferson.
I didn’t expect a single thing that happened within this book, each page more surprising than the last! Something about the royal dynamic mixed with the current 2020 times made it a new take on royalty.
Most books that contain these themes are set in a time centuries ago. That makes it hard to relate and connect with the characters. Therefore when this relatability is mixed in with a splash of royalty there is what I imagine a perfect blend.
I got the royal drama that I needed, while also being able to connect to the characters on a deeper level!
However, I think one of the biggest helping hands of this read was the time that it came to me. I’ve been stuck in a bit of a reading slump lately, and honestly, it’s been hard to really get into a book. Nothing seemed interesting, and everything that I started would quickly get boring.
Finally, when I found out that this book was coming soon, I freaked out! It was finally a way to get out of the slump! And that it did… It was a great way to look forward to something after a long day of school, and it helped me to have a book that I could get sucked into.
It was a great escape, and for that, I feel like it was probably one of my favorite books this year. I definitely recommend it to anyone going through a similar thing!
Something about this book was just so comforting and something interesting would happen at every turn! I loved how fast-paced the story moved, and how the author didn’t dwell on things for too long. Some people would probably say that it was a bit too fast, but to me, it was just right.
The plot was continuously moving, and the author still had a way of bringing out detail with the pace. That made it easier to read and didn’t cause any problems for me.
That leads to one of the best parts of the book, the plot. I don’t know how the author thought of this storyline or plot, but it is epic. There’s so much drama while also a lot of good messages and necessary themes. It deals with problems that occur in our everyday society while also adding a dramatic splash of drama.
The characters within this plot were so developed, and the actual storyline is interesting alone. I’ve never read anything similar to it before. Their relationships with each other and themselves were constantly evolving and changing. Watching each of their transformations was so mesmerizing and a ton of fun.
One of my favorites within this transformation was Beatrice. To be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan of her in the first book. It was the cliche, “I don’t know who I want to be… do I be what everyone else wants, or what I want?”
I feel like I had read that a lot and her character always seemed to have a blurriness over it. Yet, she was probably my favorite character in the new book. I think she finally came out of her shell, realized who she wanted to be, and demanded nothing less.
Watching that was just so entertaining, and I would do anything to revisit those feelings. She became a wise, mature woman and queen. Not only by the outside world but personally too. The way the author wrote that was so well developed, and I could go on talking about it for hours!
So, while I loved this book from beginning to end, the one tiny complaint I would give was about the missing characters from the first book. I didn’t really care about this, but I thought it would be worth mentioning to anyone interested in reading it.
The first book talked about a wide range of different characters, and while the second one also picked that up, some of the characters got lost along the way. Nina was kind of cast-off to the side of the book, as well as Jefferson and their relationship.
I really wanted to hear more from the two of them, so make sure to keep it in mind if they are a favorite!
Overall, I adored this book! From beginning to end it was full of surprises, drama, and reality. It was different, yet similar, deep, yet relatable, and everything in between. Because of that, I would rate this book 4.5/5 stars! It is so well thought out and executed, so I recommend that you lay your hands on this one or the first one right now!
